This Is Broken - Wifi hotspot login

wifi loginI found this great website after watching a video of Seth Godin at a GEL conference. Great example of things that are broken and bad user experience.

Best Web Design

Bath’s best web design…?

Is Digerati Studio the best web design company in Bath? Who knows? But this page will hopefully demonstrate an interesting concept with search engines. And the best web site design company needs to also know about how to get those great designs noticed.

The thing is that search engines are not people like you and me, although let’s be honest I wish I knew as much as Google! So a search engine cannot tell whether a design is good or not, and there are a lot of objective and subjective elements that dictate what makes the best web design in Bath, Bristol, the UK or even the world.

What actually happens is that search engines read the content (text) of the page to see what it is talking about - in this case: the debate about the best web design. They also like big titles like this one:

Best Web Design in Bath and Bristol

The Internet is a constantly changing place with more and more ecommerce websites, online shops, company websites showing off what they can do and all of these require great web design (the best is often more elusive). How many times have you searched for ‘best website designs’ or ‘best web design’ or even ‘best web design company’? I know we have typed it in a fair few times. It always seems to show up bizarre web sites where the design is not always the world’s best. But again, the search engine cannot distinguish whether web page design is the best or if it doesn’t quite meet the mark.

I have rattled on enough about this. Let’s wait and see if my little experiment works, and I’ll post an update on it in due course.

Thanks for listening!

New Kleeneze.nl site makes it all 3!

Kleeneze have now launched the new kleeneze.nl website for their operations in the Netherlands. The dutch website is based on the design of the UK and German websites that we did for Kleeneze in April.

Great to see the complete set now!

Moving House

I’m getting married in 3 weeks time, and have just moved house from my all male shared house, to my new house where I will be living with my future wife. I have moved from a house with:

a 32″ widescreen television, 4mb broadband internet wifi connection, cordless digital telephones, dishwasher, modern stainless steel cooker-oven, frost-free fridge/freezer

to a house with:

no cable access, no internet access (but only capable of UP TO 3mb), a downsized 4:3 television and no wifi network…….However, it is all a matter of time!

Building a home together is one of things I am most excited about. Being removed from the technology I so love, has given me the chance to reflect on how the majority of my social time is spent indulged in technology. Whether it is browsing the internet, watching TV or a DVD, playing games consoles, cooking snacks, chatting on the phone, some form of technology is involved in my social past times.

Moving house poses a challenge, as nothing is set up for at least a month or so. Trying to find the best deal for your situation is also another challenge. Being on a single income and tight budget means my bandwidth is compromised! However, there was a sky dish already installed, so with the acquisition of an old sky box, my TV channels are still plentiful!

During my technological exodus, I have been surprised by how much I enjoy talking to my fiancée, reading books and making friends with local neighbours! It’s always good to step back and take a look at your life and see what things are taking up your time and whether they are important or not. Technology can be very immersive and demanding of your time, yet at the same time seem as if it is the answer to all your problems!

In a month or so, I will be in my new house with my wife. I will have broadband internet access with a wireless network, satellite TV, DVD and audio system linked, digital cordless telephones with free evening and weekend calls, our kitchen will be adorned with cooking equipment courtesy of wedding gifts. However, my wife will be my priority and my past time, technology will have to be second best – and I can’t wait for that!

What is good design? Well I found something I thought was worth sharing.

A while ago I posted a blog about how hard it is to find good designed and user-friendly websites. While surfing on the web and having a look at what’s new, I found a site I thought was worth sharing with you. This really shows that good design and user-friendliness haven’t completely vanished from the internet. This website promotes a company specialised in animations and as you would expect, they will go a bit crazy and out of the ordinary with their design. By now you’d think yeah well easy to make it work cross-browser just another flash animated site. You are right except that they do give you the choice of viewing the site in html format which is just as great and works on both Mac and PC.

Have a look for yourself:

I think it’s one of the best sites I’ve come across lately. Just shows that good design, user friendly and cross browser compatible can go hand in hand.
